Christian Bale began his career in acting as a child. He landed his first commercial at the age of nine for the fabric softener Lenor in 1982. Soon after, he made his stage debut London in The Nerd, opposite comedian Rowan Atkinson.
In 1987, Bale starred in Steven Spielberg’s Empire of the Sun. Bale’s great performance won him positive reviews as well as the National Board of Review’s award for Best Juvenile Performance and the Young Artist Award for Best Young Actor in a Motion Picture.
