Matthew McConaughey began his acting career in 1991, appearing in commercials in Texas and student films. After appearing in some smaller roles in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994), Boys on the Side (1995), and the television series Unsolved Mysteries, McConaughey’s big break came as the lawyer in the legal thriller A Time to Kill (1996), a film adaptation of John Grisham’s novel of the same name.
He was cast in leading roles in many more films: Contact (1997), The Newton Boys (1998), EDtv (1999) and U-571 (2000). After 2000, Matthew starred in several romantic comedies: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), Failure to Launch (2006), Fool’s Gold (2008), and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009).
