Nicolas Cage began his acting career in 1980 as an extra in the film Brubaker starring Robert Redford. In 1982, he got a small role in the teenage comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High. After that, he appeared in Rumble Fish (1983), Birdy (1984, starring Matthew Modine), Francis Ford Coppola’s Peggy Sue Got Married (1986), the Coen Brothers’ comedy Raising Arizona (1987), Moonstruck (1987, starring Cher), David Lynch’s bizarre Wild at Heart (1990), and the comedy Honeymoon in Vegas (1992).
By 1994, Cage was valued at about $4 million per movie, but agreed to star in Mike Figgis’ Leaving Las Vegas (1995) for only $240,000 because of the strength of the role.

Financial problems
In 2010, Cage told People magazine that he owed $14 million in back taxes. He blamed his former manager, Samuel J. Levin, for losing millions of dollars to risky investments and filed a $20 million suit against the CPA.
To settle up accounts he sold his castle in Bavaria, Germany. Cage also put homes in Louisiana, Rhode Island, California, and Nevada, as well as a $7 million island in the Bahamas, up for sale.
In 2011, Cage also sold his “Action Comics #1″ comic book collectable in an online auction for a record-breaking $2.16 million dollars, to assist paying his debts. Cage purchased the comic in 1997 for $110,000.
