Robert De Niro’s breakthrough film performances came the 1973 films, Bang the Drum Slowly, a baseball drama, and Mean Streets, his first collaboration with Martin Scorsese. The next year, he played¬† Vito Corleone in The Godfather: Part II. His performance earned him his first Oscar award.

He worked with director Martin Scorsese in several more movies such as Raging Bull (1980), The King of Comedy (1983), Goodfellas (1990), Cape Fear (1991), and Casino (1995).

He expanded into comedy film roles in the late-1980′s appearing in the film the hit action-comedy Midnight Run (1988), opposite Charles Grodin.
