Samuel L. Jackson began his acting career on stage in the 1970′s, performing in Richard Wesley’s The Mighty Gents, an adaptation of Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage, and Charles Fuller’s A Soldier’s Play. In the 1980′s, he meet director Spike Lee and appeared in a several Lee’s films including School Days (1988), Do the Right Thing (1989), Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Jungle Fever (1991).
He continued to take small parts in films such Patriot Games (1992) and Menace II Society (1993).
His breakthrough role came as Jules Winnfield in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (1994). His performance received several award nominations including an Academy Award nomination.
Jackson went on to appear in several big Hollywood movies, including Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995), The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996), John Grisham’s A Time to Kill (1996), Deep Blue Sea (1999), and Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999).
In 2000, he starred in opposite Tommy Lee Jones in Rules of Engagement, Shaft, and Unbreakable, opposite Bruce Willis.
