Colby Covington made his MMA appearance on February 11, 2012, at Midtown Throwdown 3 against Chris Ensley. He defeated his opponent in the first round via TKO.
Following his debut victory, he went on to win four consecutive bouts under separate promoters. He was a Fight Time, CFA, and AFC rosters member. Two of his four victories were by submission, while the other two came unanimously.
Covington made his UFC appearance against Anying Wang at UFC Fight Night. He defeated his opponent through TKO in the last seconds of the first round. His next bout was against Wagner Silva, which he won through third-round submission.
Covington squared up against Mike Pyle at UFC 187. Both competitors fought for three rounds, but Covington was named the unanimous winner.
His UFC debut ended in a defeat to Warlley Alves at UFC 194. He was submitted to win the bout when Alves used a guillotine grip that made him tap out.
Colby Covington won five consecutive bouts following his initial setback, the majority via unanimous decision.
He subsequently squared up against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 225 for the Interim UFC Welterweight Championship. Covington earned a unanimous decision victory in the bout.
