In April 2016, Escobedo reached his first ATP Challenger final in So Paulo, which propelled him into the world’s top 300 for the first time in his career. In the last seven months, he became the sixth American teenager to reach a Challenger final.

Before his 20th birthday, he defeated Top 100 player Diego Schwartzman in the Aegon Open in Nottingham to win his maiden ATP match. He defeated fellow American Frances Tiafoe in Lexington to win his first international championship the following month. In addition, he won the 2016 US Open Wild Card Challenge, which earned him a wild card into the main draw of the year’s last grand slam event. When Escobedo beat Luká Lacko in the first round with his wild card, he broke through to the Top 200 for the first time and won his first-ever grand slam match.

Escobedo returned to the 2020 US Open as an alternate, where he beat Kamil Majchrzak in round one after the delay of the 2020 season due to COVID.

After defeating Paolo Lorenzi in the first round of the 2021 Miami Open, Escobedo lost to 16th seed Duan Lajovic.  His first victory in three years came at the Bendigo International Challenger in Australia.
